Nuit D'ete Cactus Dahlia

‘Nuit D’Ete’ Cactus Dahlia wakes up a sleepy summer garden with spikey deep-red to black petaled blossoms, up to 5" across. A reliable bloomer, and a favorite of bees, Nuit D’Ete will keep you in flowers from mid-summer until first frost. Narrow petals curl into the shape of quills - hence the name “Cactus” Dahlia. Spunky and fun, this dahlia is an easy grower in a sunny spot with compost enriched soil and good drainage. Just plant the tubers when the soil has warmed (60°>F) – a few weeks after the last frost. Plant 3-4" deep and once the plant has sprouted, keep the soil consistently moist for best growth. For longer flower stems, when the plant reaches 12", cut the center growth back by 3-4 inches. This mid-sized, 3-4' tall Dahlia is an easy addition to a flower bed. Plant with echinacea, Agastache, and asters where they can add the perfect note to your planting. Dahlias are addictive, and you will soon find yourself planning more flower beds! Perennial in zones 8-10, mulching sometimes works in zone 7. Otherwise, dig tubers in fall for storage and replanting the next spring. (3-4' tall x 18" wide)
