(48-60" tall) Palmer’s Penstemon forms an evergreen mound of stems sporting pairs of prickly, gray-green leaves. The magic starts in early summer, when stems surge upward to become towering flower spikes with bulbous, lipped blooms in shades of pale pink (similar to snapdragons). Ideal as a dramatic focal point that draws the eye even at a distance, Palmer's Penstemon also merits a place along a path or near a patio, where you can enjoy the flowers' delightful scent and watch the hummingbirds as they hover to sip the sweet nectar. Palmer's Penstemon is remarkably water-wise, durable, and very drought-resistant. Plant it in full sun and very well-drained soil, as it would get in its native habitat in desert canyons and washes.
